According to Sir David King, the British government’s chief scientific adviser & head of the Foresight program, stocking up on food was key to survival in prehistoric times. But now with energy dense, cheap foods, labor-saving devices, motorized transport, and sedentary work, obesity is rapidly becoming a consequence of modern life.


35-45% of people are obese, this is an alarming situation for the whole world. Due to an unhealthy lifestyle, there is a sharp rise in the number of obese people and it’s an open invitation to several diseases.


 What is obesity?


Obesity is becoming an epidemic which is spreading at a faster rate. It is a very serious and chronic disease that can have a negative effect on various systems of your life-health, social and economic systems.


Obesity is a major concern for everyone, each year obesity-related problems cost over 150 dollars and cause an estimated 300,000 premature deaths in the US only.


According to the National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2009-2010, approximately 69% of adults are overweight or obese, with more than 78 million adults Americans considered as obese. 

It is a wake-up call for  every country, obesity is associated with many health issues such as:  

Cardiovascular diseases

High blood pressure 

Stroke

Diabetes

Abnormal Cell Growth 

Gallbladder disease & gallstones

Osteoarthritis 

Gout

Breathing problems such as sleep apnea and asthma.

How Green Tea helps in managing obesity-related diseases?


  1. Heart-diseases & stroke:

Green tea can lower your risk of cardiovascular diseases, studies suggest it may lower LDL cholesterol & triglycerides, which may be responsible for deaths and stroke.

According to a new study, an ingredient found in green tea might help to protect against atherosclerosis, which is a common cause of heart disease or attacks and stroke.  


 2.     Diabetes:

Green tea has an anti-diabetic property, it very useful in managing type 2 diabetes. Due to loads of polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants found in plants. Polyphenols help in reducing oxidative stress and regulates blood glucose levels. Green tea helps sensitize cells so they are better able to metabolize sugar.


3.     Bones problems (Osteoporosis): 

Green tea is full of antioxidant compounds and multiple studies suggest it protects against bone loss and osteoporosis. Green tea stimulates mineralization to support bone formation, while at the same time inhibiting the formation of cells that remove bone tissue. 


4.    Brain disorders:

Green tea has many beneficial compounds which can improve brain function and make you smarter and improves thinking abilities. Amino acid L-theanine, which is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and it also increases the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA,  has anti-anxiety effects.


5.    Breathing problems:

Frequently drinking green tea has shown that it has antioxidants & anti-inflammatory effects which are useful in reducing the risk of lung cancer and type2 diabetes. However, studies have found that green tea also lowers the risk of chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD).  


To sum up:

 Green tea consumption has ample of health-benefits because of its bioactive compounds which are potent to aid in mental alertness, reduce anxiety symptoms, lower the risk of liver disease (NAFLD), inflammatory diseases, heart diseases.
